Vincent Lee - Sound Design/UI Artist




Role: 

  • I am the main sound designer for the project. I also was a secondary UI artist. 

Process: 

  • SFX was produced by a combination of stock and custom-recorded noises. All were mixed and modified using both Audacity and Pro-Tools. The sounds were then formatted as .wav files, and then implemented into the Unreal Engine, with the help of Cayne Zacharias.

Learning Process:

  • During my SFX process, I learned how much referencing I had to go through. When given a task, I would look up examples of what sound I was looking for, watch a video of the sound and listen carefully several times, try to decipher how that sound was made, and then finally start collecting and recording sounds to mix. 

    I would turn to other games for inspiration, such as Halo for the Shield, Bioshock for the Machines, and Fallout for the Guns. I have come to appreciate the hard work it takes to make great SFX for any type of media, as finding and making the right sounds was a pain without references to help me. 

Surprise:

  • I am honestly shocked at how much time I needed to spend watching and listening to other video games. I spent hours listening to various games SFX to figure out the right fit for our project, and then actually make it myself. I had to pay careful attention to details in a sound, to understand and reverse engineer their process. 

Achievement:

  • I am proud of successfully delivering as much audio as I could for the project. This project has shown me that I am a competent sound designer, capable of working with a large team. It has given me a great learning experience, to improve upon in the future.
